Stunning Acrylic Prints for Photographers – Acrylic Printing Review

If you’re like me and you really like the wow factor of seeing big, bright, beautiful prints on your walls, you’ll want to see what a metallic photographic print face mounted onto acrylic looks like.
Acrylic Mounted Photographic Prints
The fine people at Bumblejax recently reached out to send us a studio sample of one of our photographs, printed on metallic paper and mounted onto acrylic, and I can honestly say that the finished photo is absolutely stunning.
It actually looks like the photo is back-lit, or on an LED screen – it is that bright and vibrant! In fact, after hanging it, I have had several people ask if the acrylic print was a TV screen or some sort of giant iPad – which is exactly the type of pop that I was after.
This is the first time that I have had something printed at Bumblejax and I was really impressed with both the quality of the final image and their level of customer service.
Bumblejax is a boutique print shop and you can really tell that they have pride in what they do.
About Acrylic Prints
If you want to see a quick video that shows exactly what goes into mounting photographic prints onto acrylic, take a look at this video:
What was surprising to me is the level of personalized care and human attention that has to go into every piece – you don’t get that kind of craftsmanship very often anymore.
Bumblejax is very particular about the quality of the products they are offering. If you want to see more about the differences between acrylic prints from different suppliers, take a look at the product information here.
Ordering and Cost
Bumblejax can print a number of sizes and aspect ratios from small 7×7 pieces up to big 40×30 prints. They can even do custom sizes up to 92×46!
Personally, I don’t see much point in ordering small acrylic prints, unless you are doing a wall collage.
Instead I would go as large as possible for your space – and then order one size larger – you won’t be sorry when you hang the acrylic print.
You can also upgrade the basic acrylic print by going with ¼” acrylic and/or metallic paper. The metallic paper is a no-brainer – the whole point of mounting your prints on acrylic is to get as much vibrancy as possible, and metallic paper is great for that. And if you’re going to spend the money anyway, the upgrade to ¼” acrylic is only a marginal increase in cost too.
Ordering is simple – you can upload and order acrylic prints directly from Bumblejax’ website, or if you have a custom order, you can submit a quote request and upload your image files via FTP.
Would I Recommend Bumblejax to a Friend?
Absolutely! The print they made for me is one of my all time favorites. Everyone that sees it loves it, and it totally stands out from the usual 8×10 framed photos that people typically hang on their walls.
However, acrylic mounted photographic prints, especially photos printed on metallic paper are not for every photograph. These prints look best with photos that are sharp, vibrant, colorful and crisp. If a photo looks especially good on a screen, like an HD TV, cell phone or tablet, chances are that it will look awesome as an acrylic mounted photographic print.
