Genius Built In USB Charger for Electronic Devices

It seems like I have a million electronic devices – my phone, my wife’s phone, several generations of iPod’s, tablets, cameras, camera gear, my GoPro and it’s remote, even two or three remote control helicopters…and they all use a different USB charger.
Usually, this means that they have a USB cord that can be plugged into any USB port on a computer – or plugged into an outlet with the use of a wall wart.
If you’re not familiar with the term – a wall wart is the little (or sometimes not so little) plug thingie that takes the high voltage power from your wall (110v or 220v AC) and converts it to low voltage power to charge your device (5v DC).
Wall warts are ugly, take up space and are a general nuisance.
Thankfully, most current devices use a common Micro USB charge port – so you can use the same USB chord for multiple devices – with the obvious exception of Apple’s iOS connector.
So whatever right?
You still have all these chords and chargers lying around for each device – so when you want to charge your camera, you still have to dig through a snake pit of wires and connectors in the bottom of some junk drawer to find the right charger.
Built In USB Charger for Electronic Devices
That’s why I was so excited when I came across this genius built in USB charger (this one is made by Leviton – but I am sure there are other brands too).
Universal Built In USB Charging Stations
So here’s my plan.
I charge most of my electronic devices in two places – in the kitchen and in the bedroom.
I am going to switch one of the standard outlets on my kitchen counter (where I currently plug in most of my electronics to charge) to this built in USB charger.
I am going to leave one Micro USB cord and one Apple iOS cord in a drawer below it at all times – that way I can charge 90% of my electronic devices without having to search for the right charger. (I do have a few electronic devices that use a bastard USB charger).
Then, I am going to install two built in USB chargers in my bedroom – one on either side of the bed. That way, my wife and I can plug in our phones on the night table – again without having to grab chargers from somewhere else (which always seem to go missing).
(And by the way – no, I don’t answer email in bed – but I do use my phone as an alarm clock, and we don’t have a land line, so its important that our phones stay charged and accessible).
How Do You Charge Your Electronic Devices?
How do you handle charging all of your electronic devices? Do you think a universal built in USB charger like this is useful – or is there something better?
