Summer swimming in the cottage lake is as Canadian as it gets.
The Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, Bobcaygeon area of Ontario, Canada is one of Canada’s most popular summer cottage destinations – just a little south-east of the more well known Muskoka cottage country.
The Kawarthas area is within a reasonable drive of the larger population centers in southern Ontario like the greater Toronto area, but far enough away that it maintains a rural feel and a touch of northern Canadian wilderness.
With multitudes of small lakes, the Kawartha and Haliburton areas are ideal for cottage owners looking for waterfront property with costs a lot more reasonable than Muskoka.
This series of images was photographed near Minden, Ontario.
The freshwater lakes in the Kawarthas are very clean and clear – but one really cool feature is that when viewed from above with a polarizing filter, they appear almost completely black instead of the more typical blue.
This gives an interesting look to aerial photos. I especially like the look this gives for images of a woman swimming alone at the cottage on a warm summer day, and the family sitting on the old gray wooden cottage dock.
